Maybe it doesn’t look extreme. Maybe you’re still functioning, still handling responsibilities, still showing up. But there’s a pattern that keeps repeating...something you’ve tried to cut back on, control, or ignore, and it keeps finding its way back in.

It might be alcohol, substances, or behaviors that help take the edge off, slow things down, or create some kind of relief, even if it’s temporary.

This isn’t about a lack of willpower. It’s often about what your system has been trying to regulate or avoid.

What this can look like

Addiction and recovery don’t look the same for everyone. It’s often less about severity and more about patterns, impact, and how much space something is taking up in your life.

You don’t have to prove it’s “bad enough” for it to matter.

For some people, the pattern is subtle. For others, it’s more intense, harder to manage, and impacting multiple areas of life.

If things are feeling more out of control, we’ll name that honestly. And if a higher level of care would actually support you better, we can talk through that together—at a pace that feels realistic, not forced.

What looks like a “problem” on the surface is often your nervous system trying to manage something underneath.

 

Sometimes it’s less about the substance itself and more about the role it’s been playing, helping your system manage stress or pressure, even as it begins to take more out of you than it gives.

You might notice:​​

  • using alcohol, substances, or behaviors more than you intend

  • difficulty stopping once you start or feeling like it’s getting harder to control

  • cycles of cutting back and returning to the same pattern

  • relying on something to manage stress, anxiety, or emotional discomfort

  • feeling guilt, frustration, or internal conflict around your use

  • keeping parts of your behavior hidden, minimized, or noticing it starting to affect more areas of your day-to-day

  • noticing it affecting your relationships, responsibilities, or how you show up with others

Even if it shows up differently for you, it still matters

How I approach addiction and harm reduction

My approach is trauma-informed and grounded in understanding the role substances or behaviors have played in your system over time.

This work is rooted in a harm reduction approach.

We also look at how the brain’s reward system reinforces patterns over time, and how to begin shifting that in a way that’s realistic and sustainable.

The focus isn’t on forcing the behavior to stop. It’s on understanding why it’s there in the first place.

This work often includes:

  • understanding what the behavior has been doing for you and what it’s helping you manage

  • building regulation strategies that don’t rely on substances or old coping patterns

  • addressing underlying anxiety, trauma, or chronic stress driving the pattern

  • increasing awareness and choice around behaviors instead of reacting automatically

  • creating shifts that feel realistic and sustainable—not forced

This work isn’t about judgment or forcing change. It’s about understanding how this once served a purpose, building awareness and stability, and creating the space to choose differently over time.

Getting Started

Starting this kind of work can feel uncomfortable—especially if part of you isn’t sure you’re ready to change, or doesn’t even know what that would look like.

You don’t have to have that figured out to reach out.
